Agency Update on Minnesota Silica Sand Mining Legislation

Presentation Overview

In 2013 the Minnesota state legislature passed several laws related to the mining, transport, and processing of silica sand resources.  This presentation will give an overview of the legislation as well as provide updates on project status.

 

Speaker Biography

Heather Arends currently works for both the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board (EQB) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  She is the DNR coordinator for rulemaking of silica sand mineland reclamation.  At the EQB, her role is to facilitate state technical assistance for local units of government on silica sand related issues.  Heather received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris in geological science and is completing an M.S. at the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  She has also worked for the DNR for over 15 years.
