Presentation Title
Status of Minnesota Geological Survey Investigations
by Harvey Thorleifson, Minnesota Geological Survey
Presentation Overview
The Minnesota Geological Survey was established in 1872 to ensure the availability of statewide geoscience information that is meant to clarify the context of site investigations, and to support the progress of research and regional planning. The information helps to ensure wise stewardship of water, land, and mineral resources, and to thus realize societal benefits related to economic prosperity, public health, natural hazards, as well as appreciation and preservation of our natural heritage. At the new MGS location, current emphasis is on consistent, updated, statewide geological, geophysical, and geochemical databases, in particular the accelerated production of multi-layered, 1:100,000 County Geologic Atlases that are especially needed for regional management of ground-water resources.
